Monica Mullinax
My name is Monica Mullinax and I am 49 years old. I am a Certified Surgical Technologist. I am the mother of 2 kids (1 girl & 1 boy) that are married now and have their careers. I have 3 grandkids. On Nov 11, 2020 I found myself in the ER because I couldn’t speak. They performed CT scans, MRI scans and blood work. I found out that night that I had tumors and fluid on my brain and I needed surgery to remove the largest one that was causing the problem. The tumor was the size of a golf ball. On Nov 13, I had a craniotomy to remove the tumor. Further tests revealed the presence of non-small cell carcinoma which had metastisized to to my brain from my lungs. I began radiation in December and chemotherapy in January 2021. Now I am on being receiving immunotherapy.
During all of this, I married my wonderful husband Michael who has been by my side through the entire process. Without the support of my family, friends, the ones raising the awareness and money for research to beat cancer and God I wouldn’t be where I am now. All of my scans are good. The last MRI of my brain was clear and the PET scan showed that one of the tumors in my lungs is gone and the other has decreased in size by half. I was able to return to work in March 2021 on a part-time basis. Not full time yet but I will get there!!
